Program Overview

S.P.I.C.E.: Students with Potential and Interest, Considering Engineering

Co-Sponsored by: Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering and the Women in Engineering Program

S.P.I.C.E ProgramS.P.I.C.E. Camp is a one-week commuter program for young women who will be entering the 9th and 10th grade next fall and would like to learn more about engineering disiplines,opportunties, and careers. Throughout the course of the week, students will be introduced to the world of engineering through projects, tours, and guest speakers. Each activity is intended to highlight the relevance of engineering in our daily life and how engineering can work to improve societal problems. All activities will be supervised by current engineering students and conducted in a safe learning environment at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Program Dates and Times

 Monday, June 24, 2019 - Friday, June 28, 2019. Camp Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 



The $360.00 cost covers all project materials, transportation once on campus, and a morning and afternoon snacks. Students should plan to bring their own lunch from home.

Scholarship opportunities are available based on need. Scholarship applications will be available to students who have been admitted to the program. 

*Payment is due at time of enrollment.


Applications for 2019 S.P.I.C.E Summer Program will be available in late January 2019. 

Your complete application must include the following items:

    **It is important to check for spelling and grammatical errors. Hint: Type your essay response in a word processing program first, review it for errors, then copy and paste it into the text box on the application form.**
  • Official Middle/High School Transcript
    If the classes you are currently enrolled in are not listed on the transcipt, please attach a list of current classes.
Please note that you will not be able to save and return to the application frm at a later date. You must complete the entire application in a single setting. Therefore, we encourage you to have all the required materials before you begin to complete the form.
Please provide the following link to one (1) teacher for a letter of recommendation. Only 1 letter will be read along with your application.
