Friday, September 22 through Sunday, September 24, nine Walker Mill Middle School GEAR UP parents joined parents from Gholson Middle School to participate in the "Families Supporting Achievement" Seminar hosted by Family Works of the Family Services Agency, Inc. and the Maryland Higher Education Commission. The seminar was held at the Inn and Conference Center at the University of Maryland, University College. Parents attended workshops where they learned about: parent involvement basics of No Child Left Behind, requirements for Title I Schools, levels of parent involvement in the schools, how to partner with the school to support students' academic advancement, leadership skills to use with school staff, other parents, community partners; techniques for engaging other parent in student achievement activities and opportunities to support student achievement through middle and high school.
