The 2009 Summer Bridge Program for Scientists and Engineers is seeking a hardworking, responsible student to serve in the role of program assistant. The Bridge Program is designed for academically talented incoming freshmen who plan to major in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or the physical sciences, and will be held June 28 – July 31, 2009. The Summer Bridge Program is sponsored by the Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering and the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CMPS). POSITION TITLE:
Bridge Program Assistant (1)
DEPARTMENT:
Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering
QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent organization, planning, and supervisory skills are a MUST; A candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively and work independently; Possess a courteous, positive, professional manner; Strong organizational skills are needed to prioritize tasks and adhere to deadlines; Computer skills and knowledge of word processing; Comprehensive knowledge of University of Maryland resources (i.e. registration procedures, financial aid, resident life, etc.); Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Assist Program Coordinator with summer planning tasks
-Act as the Resident Assistant in the dormitory
-Act as a liaison between the program coordinator and the students as needed
-Ability to be on-call for the duration of the five-week program, including evenings and weekends
-Enforce Bridge Program procedures and goals
-Attend weekly staff meetings
-Supervise the creation and ordering of program T-shirts
-Organize, facilitate, and supervise the closing reception program
-Assist students with their transition to the University of Maryland
-Other duties as assigned
POSITON AVAILABLE:
June 15- August 7, 2009
SALARY:
$3,000 plus room and board from June 28- July 31, 2009
