Undergraduate Student Assistants
Spring 2008
Department: Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering--GEAR UP CAMP
Salary:$8.00 per hour and up (depending on experience)
Program Dates: February -May 3, 2008
The Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering at the University of Maryland in collaboration with the Prince George's County Public Schools GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) will be providing instruction, mentorship and support in mathematics, science and leadership to high school students during the Spring 2008 semester for our GEAR UP CAMP Saturday Mathematics Academy program.
We are searching up to four (4) undergraduate students to serve as mentors and support in the instruction of our Saturday math, science and leadership programs.
Sample Duties Include:
Assisting the mathematics instructor/teachers in the classroom
Assisting with the teaching of the robotics curriculum
Assisting with enrichment activities and design projects
Serve as monitors in the classroom
Serve as mentors to freshman high school students.
Weekly meetings with program staff
Participate in paid training
Qualifications:
Experience working with pre-college programs, preferred
Experience working with diverse populations, required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, required
Experience providing tutoring in math, science, and reading, preferred but not required
